Local educator, Melanie Nimtz, is pleased to announce the opening of Steamboat Driving School, Northwest Colorado’s only driver’s education school. Steamboat Driving School will offer a 30-hour driver’s education classroom course, 30-Hour Online Course, behind-the-wheel driving lessons for a Graduated Driver’s License program (GDL) and Driver's License Tests. These services meet the state’s requirements for teens seeking to obtain a permit and license. Steamboat Driving School’s curriculum is approved and accredited with the Colorado Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicles Business Group.

With a deficiency of driver’s education options for local teens, she has prepared a comprehensive driving program tailored for aspiring drivers to efficiently and effectively learn the rules of the road, safe driving habits and strategies for various driving scenarios. Online GDL programs lack the advantages of being able to ask an instructor questions, interact with other students or to participate in discussions to enhance learning and understanding. Nimtz and Steamboat Driving School are committed to delivering high quality, professional instruction both in the classroom and on the road. They are focused on providing teens and new drivers with the knowledge and real world experiences to become safe, responsible and confident drivers.

Nimtz has a Bachelor’s degree from Drake University, a Master’s from the University of Colorado, both in Education, and over fifteen years of teaching experience in public schools. In 2014, she began a private tutoring company, Sleeping Giant Tutoring, which focuses on students’ individual reading, writing and math needs. She has also coached U7 alpine skiing with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and girls’ hockey with the Steamboat Youth Hockey program.
